Background
Prophet to Judah during the reigns of 4 kings.
Tradition is that he was sawed in half.
Book has 66 books; 39 on the coming judgement, 27 on the restoration. Often called a 'mini bible'.
I. Intro : Put Sin Away (1-5)
v16-20 "Remove the evil of your deeds...Come let us reason together,
though your sins are as scarlet, they will be as white as snow"
1. Call to repentance (1)
1:1-1:15 Judah has rebelled
1:16-1:20 Call to repentance
1:21-1:31 God will judge and redeem
2. Reckoning is coming (2-3)
2:1-4 The mountain of the Lord (his reign) will be established.

No major promise for material propserity ("shelter to give shade..., refuge and protection from the storm")
THe Lord will create over Zion a cloud by day and fire by night; "for over all the glory will be a canopy" (v5)

5:26-30 A distant nation will do the destruction

II. Isaiah's Call (6)
6:1-6:7 Isaiah's vision of God and cleansing
6:8-6:13 Isaiah's call
Isaiah says, "Send me!" (v8)
They won't listen to Isaiah (God will render them unable to understand) (v9,10).
God will devastate the land and take them to far away (v11,12).
There will be a remnant ("The holy seed is its stump" v13).
